Shhh, can you hear it? That wise little voice inside your head that seems to know all the answers. Do you listen when it whispers to you?
After recently ignoring that soft little voice for too long, I am now all about paying attention to the little messages sent out by my subconscious. I had been generally tired and out of sorts for quite a while but kept pushing through, as we do! My gut told me that something wasn’t quite right but, reluctant to moan or exaggerate, I ignored how I was feeling. Silly me! When I finally decided to get a blood test, it turned out that my iron levels were really low and so, a perfectly good reason for feeling so rotten. Not only that, it is also easily fixed! You can imagine how I wished I had reacted sooner.
For me, the diagnosis wasn’t at all serious and I was relieved to know why I had been feeling so exhausted but I have learned a valuable lesson along the way. If you sense that something is a bit “off”, it’s usually because it is! We really need to put time and effort into knowing our bodies and minds really well and recognising when to take action. I saw a post recently that said, “You are the Expert of You” and it really resonated with me. We are the first stop for listening to and taking care of ourselves.
The other thing I’m finding important lately is to share information. Chat to your close friends, tell them about your discoveries. By sharing, we have access to tonnes of experience and we can gain so much from others’ trial and error. Google is great but a friendly ear and real advice is priceless.
My yoga teacher’s words struck a chord with me during my last class when she said to listen to my body and do what felt right that day. I often feel that if I do something one day then I should do the same, or better, the next time and that’s just not how our bodies (or minds) work! We need to learn to concentrate harder on how we feel and what we need, all day, every day because we are constantly changing. The same goes for nutrition, relaxation, exercise, work… the list goes on.
So, try to get some quite time and really tune in… you might be surprised what you hear, when you pay attention. Enjoy being the expert of you!
