Most of the time we know what we should be doing for optimum health and happiness but there are days when, despite our best intentions, we can be slightly lacking in the motivation department. It happens to the best of us and we shouldn’t beat ourselves up over it.
I recently read a very helpful article which reminded me that it doesn’t have to be a case of “all or nothing”. On the subject of setting goals and personal yoga practice, it’s so important to remember that a little is so much better than nothing. It’s not all about getting up at 5am to do an hour of yoga before the rest of the house wakes (although that would be awesome), it’s about fitting in what you can, where you can and looking after your own wellbeing.
Our studio classes are so precious but don’t give up just because you don’t have an hour to spare for yourself today, roll out that mat for 15 minutes, you’ll feel so good. If you haven’t got 15 minutes, just take 5. At the end of the day you’ll be really proud of squeezing in that little bit of you time.
Similarly take 5 minutes to attack your “to do” lists or wash the dishes, send that email, fold the laundry. When you don’t have the time or energy to tackle a big job, take just 5 minutes and see how much you can get done. A “quick fix” is the enemy of procrastination! It’s amazing the satisfaction just a few minutes of focus can produce.
We all have our favourite poses, the ones that make us feel fantastic or help us relax and stretch the most but below is some fun inspiration for your home practice, however long or short you can manage.
